Home > Going from HK Life is short; let's living / study abroad!

Every one goes through the same 3 stages when preparing to live / study abroad. Namely - looking for the country to go, looking for the school or organization that you will study in or work with, and looking for information.

In the event of picking a country and then a school or organization, you are the only one who can make the decision. Your family, friends and school may help you but at the end of the day, you should be the one to make the decision, and be responsible for the decision. You can talk to as many people as you want before you make the decision and you should. It is because if you can pick the right place for you, you will be able to make the most of your journey.

If you are going to study for a degree in overseas, you may like to pick somewhere where you can manage easier. Places where you are able to communicate and you can adapt to the new surrounding within a reasonable period. In this sense, USA, Canada, UK and Australia are undoubtedly the most popular choices among HK students.

On the other hand, if you are going for a one year at most study trip; or you are trying to have a new experience in life; the formula of experiencing a life-changing experience will always be going somewhere where the culture and language are totally different. That said, you are still the only one who can make the best decision for you.

After you have picked the place and school / organization, you should start searching for more information to prepare for your trip. Besides looking for information about the country and the school or the organization, you may also make good use of some online resources to build connection with the future home. To do so, you may:

Look for HK or Chinese people there, or even better the school or organization you are going to;
Look for international students or expats in that country;
Look for local people who are interested in making friends with foreigners;
Use Facebook or other social networking tools to identify people and groups who are related to international students or expats in that country.

Once you have every information collected, you may start planning for your trip and thinking about how you can make the most of it:
